Archives > Readings, Lectures, Performances: June 2008
I'll team up with my brother on Thursday, June 26th, for another episode of Mixed Taste: Tag Team Lectures on Unrelated Topics at The Lab at Belmar. My brother will be discussing Southern Family Restaurants, and I'm going to try to introduce folks to Sun Ra, the jazz musician from Saturn by way of Birmingham, Alabama. Come join us, if you want some smart fun. Doors open at 6pm, and the lectures begin at 6.30. Cost is $10 ($5 for members). Reservations are recommended.
I'll be offering a workshop on ekphrastic writing, entitled "I to Eye: Writing About Photographs, Away from the Self" as part of Lighthouse Writers Workshop's annual Lit Fest. Wednesday, June 18th.
I'll join novelist Nick Arvin (Articles of War), novelist Janis Hallowell (She Was) and poet David Rothman (The Elephant's Chiropractor, The Geography of Hope) on Monday, June 16th, at 8pm at Forest Room 5 to discuss the intersections of writing and politics. Or as the Lighthouse Writers Website puts it:
Come tackle the question of what politics has to do with it. Does it affect writing? Does writing affect politics? Accidental bedfellows or enemies for life?
I'll be teaching two workshops for the Denver Writing Project on Monday, June 16th, one for young writers and one for secondary education teachers.
